Investing in photography is one of those weirdly important decisions that goes beyond finding someone who can take great photos.

It’s a very personal, valuable investment, because your photos are your memories and your memories are more than what you see. They are your feelings from the experiences in those still moments. Everything that your photos are made up of are what you’ll feel when you look back.

Compatibility, compassion, and professionalism are key when it comes to choosing your photographer. You want to make sure you're comfortable with the person you’re inviting to capture the most intimate, sacred parts of your life; but you also want to make sure they're professional--and that goes beyond the gear they use.

Are they organized and on top of the details? Are they operating as a legal business with licensing and insurance? The insurance aspect is a really important piece to consider, because you don’t want any issues to arise with your venue in the event of an accident. Some venues even require vendors to show proof of insurance.

Photography businesses are like any other when it comes to providing goods and services, we have to charge sales tax on our products just like Target does for those super witty phrase T-shirts they like to sell. When you book an experience with us, be it wedding or lifestyle, you’re purchasing a service and receiving a product when we deliver your included albums or prints so legally, we have to charge sales tax. 

You want to make sure your photographer is prepared, so don’t hesitate to ask the nitty gritty questions.

When people ask me what they should consider when looking for a photographer, my number one answer (right behind professionalism) is that you should feel comfortable with them. You’re sharing some really intimate parts of your life with the person behind the camera and it’s never fun (or good for your photos) if you don’t gel with your photographer.
